Daisies in the Kitchen Window
12” x 16”
Oil on Canvas
Year Created 2025
I photographed this piece in my kitchen, inspired by the vibrant colors of the daisies and their reflection in the vase. This work marks my first application of Mark Carder’s methodology, focusing on photo-accurate rendering and precise color matching.

Utah Desert Tree
20” x 24”
Oil on Canvas
2025
Drawing from a photograph published in Desert Magazine in 1966, I captured the stark beauty of desert landscapes. I explored the textures of sagebrush, the quiet presence of dead trees, and the rugged erosion of rock cliffs, turning a study of the land into a personal interpretation of its timeless character.

Look

Oil on Canvas
2025
This piece is based on a photograph taken on August 31, 2018, of my son and me at sunset on Olympia Bay aboard the Lady Washington. Inspired by the original composition, and guided by my mentor Andrés Cubanos, I altered the placement of the ship as my first exploration into changing compositions.

El Capitan and Half Dome are shown from the Tunnel View observation point, a favorite spot of dear friends who commissioned the original. I aimed to capture the grandeur of the cliffs and the serene beauty of the valley from this iconic vantage.

2025
During a 2025 trip to Yosemite Valley, I photographed Bridalveil Fall from across the stream, looking upriver, and spent the evenings painting what I had seen. The work reflects the light, textures, and quiet beauty of the valley I explored.

Railway in the Clouds
24” x 30”
Oil on Canvas
2025
Referencing a black-and-white photograph from the book Mt. Lowe- Railway in the Clouds (1976, Golden West Books) by Charles Siems, a friend colorized it using AI. I added dynamic clouds to complement my theme of a day-long excursion on the Alpine Division, capturing the circular bridge of the Mount Lowe Railway circa 1890.

Becoming an artist is something that I never really thought of as a potential career. I grew up expressing my creativity through model railroading, building five or six layouts over my lifetime and learning how to paint backdrops and watching Bob Ross videos. I started painting a couple paintings using his style. My son went to art school and started painting, and I was further inspired by his work. Most of my life I’ve been focused on business and entrepreneurship, and not artistic expression. As I have wound down some of my college teaching of business, I got involved with several art groups to learn drawing and painting, and was inspired by one of the members to meet one of my mentors Mark Carder, who taught me some fundamental basics of painting realism that has led to my body of emerging art with a passion for Vintage, transportation and nature. I hope you enjoy my work and look forward to your comments.
